Being married around Christmas time is tough. I never thought it would be this tough to balance two families and attend every event you can. There have been so many parties and family get togethers and people coming into town and family I need to see before they get to old to remember who I am.
It's already past the point of no return for Ben. My Grandparents keep calling him, "Parker".
I will be really relieved if we get to New Years without not offending anyone. Fingers crossed!
I have been thinking about the way I think about things.
At the end of my work day, I consider it a success if the day has gone by fast. That I didn't have to feel most of my day dragging along, trying to get through before I can go home and spend time with my family and friends.
Before I can go back to my "real life"
But work is my real life too right? It's just a part of it.
I really do like my job. It's an awesome job for me and for us right now. I don't have to be on my feet all day, it's intellectually stimulating, and I am three work days away from moving to a different branch which will make my life a million times easier.
So I shouldn't be complaining, I know. But I don't necessarily think of this as complaining. Just trying to think things through.
Trying to grow up I guess.
I think it's interesting that we work for most of the day so we can support ourselves and provide and enable our families to have great lives and opportunities.
However
I think we work more than we live....
I know that's kind of a loaded statement.
We spend 8 hours a day, working to be able to support for our families that we only get to spend a few hours with at the end of the day anyway besides vacation once a year.
I think it's interesting that we work our butts off so we can retire when we are older.
But then were old.
And I don't feel like we can enjoy things we could have if we had a little more time when we were in our 20's
I know this is the 6 year old inside of me whining about never wanting to work and always have fun. And I know I need to and will get over it and work hard because it's important and essential.
But think about it. What if life were different? What if we worked alot less than we lived?
Would we know the difference? Would we cherish life more? Or would life seem the same as it does now?
I understand that making your passion your work is ideal. But for most of us, we have to work in a field that we aren't passionate about until we can make our passion our work. And unfortunately, a lot of us never get there.
I mean, there are people who get to sing and dance for a couple of hours a night and make more money than someone working 8 hours trying to sell knives to millions of uninterested people.
Maybe either way, we don't balance out.
Maybe there's just moderation in all things. Especially time with family? so we can cherish those moments more?
There's pros and cons to every side.
Time is eternal.
Even conversationally.
